Garment Wholesaler ERP: The Complete Buyer's Guide

September 2026

Wholesalers don't need a shop counter — they need distribution

Most "garment software" you'll find is built for retailers — billing walk-in customers at a counter with a POS. A garment wholesaler, trader or distributor runs a completely different business: bulk orders, agents on the road, credit and outstanding, and thousands of SKUs across colour and size. Generic accounting or retail-billing tools simply aren't built for that, which is why so many wholesalers end up fighting their software instead of running their business with it.

"Best" isn't the longest feature list

Search for the best ERP and you'll find tools built for every industry under the sun. For a garment wholesaler, "best" isn't about which one has the most features — it's about which one fits how a garment trading business actually runs. Judge every option against the checklist below, not a marketing brochure.

The checklist: what actually matters

  • Mobile order-taking for agents. Your agents book orders at the market, in a buyer's shop, or on the road — they need to take orders from a phone with live stock, not paperwork that reaches the office days later. See what a purpose-built order-taking app should do.
  • Stock by article, colour and size. Garment inventory isn't a flat product list. You need to see every colour-and-size combination — and ideally FSN/ABC/XYZ analysis on top of it, not just a quantity on hand.
  • Outstanding, payment-risk and collections. A wholesale sale isn't done until the money is in. Look for credit tracking, a payment-risk score per party, and a prioritised daily chase list — not a spreadsheet someone updates once a month.
  • Dead-stock visibility. You should be able to spot slow-movers and non-moving stock while there's still time to clear it, not at season-end when it's too late.
  • GST e-invoicing built in. Compliance should happen inside normal billing, not as a separate chore bolted on afterwards.
  • An AI that actually answers questions. The newest advantage is software that lets you ask your own data a question — "which parties are at payment risk?", "what's my dead stock?" — and get an answer in seconds, instead of exporting to Excel and building a pivot table.

Don't forget support — in your language

The best software still needs a team that sets it up and trains your staff, ideally in your own language. For an Indian garment business, local, responsive support matters more than a long feature list — a tool nobody on your team can operate is worse than no tool at all.

How to actually evaluate it

Don't judge software from a features page. Before you commit:

  • Ask for a demo on your own data — your articles, your parties, your outstanding — not a generic sample dataset. Software that looks great with clean demo data can fall apart on real, messy stock.
  • Check how it handles your worst case — your largest party's outstanding history, your slowest-moving stock, your busiest agent's order volume.
  • Ask who supports you after go-live, not just who sells you the software.
